Joytunes Simply Piano: A beginner’s app for learning piano

Rapidly gets kids sight reading on piano The Joytunes Simply Piano app eliminates much of the frustration involved with learning music and makes it fun to practice the piano! Anecdotal examples show 7 year old children increasing practice time from 10 minutes to 45 minutes per day. It was developed by Yuval Kaminka, an Israeli neuroscientist who is using gamification to solve learning frustration. Simply download the app, create a profile, and you're on your way! You simply place your device on your keyboard and start working through the lessons. Simply Piano is especially ideal for students at the beginning stages of learning to read notes and play music. No prior music experience is necessary. It might be frustrating for a child younger than 5 who doesn't have a limited grasp of reading. Very young children (age 5 and under) may find this app frustrating, especially since they can't read yet. Also, the app makes mistakes sometimes with note recognition. It's ideal for getting children to sight read quickly and motivating kids to practice often. Tip: If you are willing to share a device, you can download the app once and create multiple profiles for more than one pianist at no extra charge!

OTHER DETAILS

Key features

Type of Tool: App

Time required: Each lesson takes only a minute or two to complete, but kids can spend as much time as they like if they are having fun. The app provides a nice balance of challenge mixed with fun - especially for kids who are new to playing piano. As kids gain master of different levels, the app will unlock new songs. Children can personalize their own curriculum, choosing to learn songs they enjoy and the same song gets more challenging as the student's skills progress. Like any piano training, the more time spent learning, the faster a kid will progress!
