California Education and Environment Initiative: foster environmental literacy for students

The mission of the California Education and The Environment Initiative is to foster environmental literacy among all California students as part of a high-quality K-12 education. The California Education and The Environment Initiative is a curriculum for students in grades K-12 that helps to provide teachers with resources to help further their student's learning about the environment. It provides in-depth textbooks that help to further the education and makes it a reliable source. In 2003, then-California Assemblywoman Fran Pavley authored legislation that required the state to develop an environment-based curriculum to be offered to all California public schools. When you go on the website there is a thing that says "Curriculum" through which you can see the "topic map" which shows all the topics that need to be covered throughout the different grades. Along with that, there are in-depth resources, including textbooks and tutorials on how to teach these topics as well. Parents love this because of the access they have to the textbooks and other resources online, which enables them to be able to help their children with their homework. Along with that, because of the online resources, parents are easily able to see which topics their student is covering throughout the year, and plan accordingly. If students like more hands-on things, this program is probably not for them, because this is mostly for teachers to teach through the textbooks, and use them as guides to schedule their curriculum for the year.
