Speakers League

Start or join a Speakers League club to provide children with the opportunity to prepare and deliver speeches and peer evaluations. This is more of a group effort to provide learning to students in a club format. There are weekly/monthly meetings to provide forums for children to practice preparation, speech rehearsal and delivery, and it also gives students the chance to evaluate their peers. This can be held outside of the traditional school system making it especially useful for families without formal ties to schools. The first speaking club was started in Carson, California, stemming from an idea as an eBook. Clubs have now started growing globally. Parents, schools and/or groups buy an annual charter to hold the club and authorize all workshops for the year. Parents like how well organized the system is, and the benefits of a space for their children to develop public speaking skills. This is best done with a group of students, ideally 6-12 to keep the club active, and having this sort of interaction with other students might not be suitable/easy for some parents.

Grades: 10 years old and older (but can be as younger if children are interested)

Cost: $95 for annual charter
