Bon Voyage World Languages Academy: a project-based linguistic and global citizenship education program

Bon Voyage is a linguistic and global citizenship education program for grades Pk-12, taught by certified native-proficient language teachers. Elizabeth Porter, a National Board Certified French teacher, felt forced to teach her class in a way she knew wasn't effective. After watching her autistic child with his speech and language pathologist, she developed an effective online curriculum. If you are looking to learn a foreign language, look no further! This innovated approach is the first and only of its kind, using a zero-translation, comprehensible input method, based on how our brains are naturally wired to acquire language. . Parents choose an online program that fits their needs and after registering, meet the teacher. To assist the students performance based learning, students use Google Classroom and Zoom among other resources provided; teachers can even see what students are doing in real-time! , Everyone wins here: parents love that they don't have to be "the teacher," and their kids are having fun while learning. Kids are engaged, focused, and listening. Tuition covers the cost of Certified Teachers who differentiate learning for each student. This method may not have your child speaking their newly acquired language quickly, but they are immersed in the language and will be able to retain it., Parents should fully understand and be onboard with this method; teachers and administration are very involved and responsive, they are available for questions and additional support. While parents may want to help translate for their child, they are encouraged to let the teacher lead because they are working on specific skills.

Catherine Clasby

My name is Catherine Clasby and I am originally from St. Louis, MO. My step daughter of 8 years, is 10 years old. After receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, I worked with AmeriCorps and Teach for America. Out of the classroom, I have been a professional nanny for over 10 years, during this time, I was also a homeschool teacher. Tutoring and working one on one with students is my favorite! I have always been interested and researched all forms or types of education. I believed there is not one way to teach; there are many different ways that work for differently for each child.
