Artistic Pursuits

Featuring art instruction, art history, and art technique in a homeschool art program that encourages creative participation, Artistic Pursuits has excellent art books from PreK to grade 12. The Artistic Pursuits art curriculum for children by Brenda Ellis has become popular among the homeschool community; it has won many awards in homeschooling and in education. Starting with a drawing book for high schoolers in 1999, Brenda wanted to allow children to create original works of art from direct observation of source materials, which allows them to choose the subjects that matter to them You buy the book, and in it read about the art history, learn some techniques, see or observe some famous paintings from famous artists, and then practice drawing and painting by looking at the sample pictures or sample steps that follow. These books are good visual arts lessons for little kids because they are very simple and easy to follow, so any parents can easily teach the short lessons to their children. Some parents and kids dislike these books because they don't see much of the "how to draw" art instruction in the books. In addition, some parents think that the book price is high.
