4-H: Project-based learning in the community

4-H offers opportunities to engage with the community through project-based learning, providing a hands-on interaction with STEM. 4-H offers virtual and in-person project-based programming as well as downloadable activity guides for at-home learning. 4-H was developed in the early 1900s as an agricultural club to engage youth with the industries in their communities. 4-H programming, clubs, camps, curriculum, and activities provide project-based STEM learning opportunities in which students engage with real-world problems in their communities. 4-H is great for building childrens' leadership skills and engagement with the community. It's an excellent choice for children who enjoy hands-on learning. Some parents may find that the activities require a bit more guidance than an online learning experience might require. To get the most out of 4-H, find your local chapter's website to see what programs and opportunities it has to offer!

Grades: PreK (ages 0-5), Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th

Cost: "4-H At Home" is a free series of activities available for download on 4-H's website. Additionally, the website offers other resources for purchase, such as curriculum. Fees to join 4-H clubs vary by location, so be sure to check out your local 4-H club's website for more details!
